Section 5.1          Relating Graphs to Events

Say Jack wanted to see how far he was from home for a time. And how long it took him to get some where. He walks out the door to the bus stop, rides a metro after waiting about three minutes, gets off and walks too the store. He is inside for about ten minutes and retraces his steps to get back home, taking about the same time it took to go to the store (and lets say for the sake of argument that the bus only has a few stops going to and from jack is going.).

Get it?,If you do.. go down until you see a line (practice problems ^^) otherwise, keep reading. I'll go into more detail;

Alright. This time, Jack wants to ride an airplane. But like before, he wants to do an analysis on it. He wants to find how high he was from the ground and for how long.

1.) He gets on the plane;

2.)The plane takes off (finally!!!^^);

3.)It levels out (we're going to knock out turbulance because it is unessisary) and stays that way for a while;

4.)Then it starts to descend;

And of course the plane has landed and Jack gets off.

Understand now? If you don't, then either go over it again or ask Mrs. Fouss for help.

Practice Problems:

1.) Katie went to school by the bus and came home by walking. Draw and label a graph showing how far she was from home, and for how long.

2.)Rose went on the R.M.S. Titanic to get to New York City from Southamton, England. Draw and label a graph showing her speed and her time (include the crash and the rescue.).

3.)Aaron drove to school. After school was out, he drove his girlfriend to her house, and came back home. Draw and label a graph showing how far he was from home, and for how long.

I hope you learned something new. 'Til next time!
